CATFISH HODGE - TWENTY YEARS

The collection of tracks on this CD come from my personal archives. Over the past thirty years of my musical journey, I have attained quite a large library of studio recordings, gig tapes from live performance, and radio interviews. It was only recently that I discovered digital software that would allow me to fine tune and remaster these tracks. The end result of this is the following nine tracks on this CD. I’m very pleased with it and I hope that you fish heads will be too!

1.    Ain’t Got It No More............ this one is from a live performance on Georgtown University radio show in 1977. The Catfish Hodge Band of the 70’s was a big band with horn section and background singers........Jimmy Powers is playing that great blues harp, Duane Campbell is on bass, the drummer is Carl H,   Luke Mc Quillin on guitar, Jamie Mc Kinnon on sax, Randy Ottenger on trumpet, George Mc Whirter on trombone, Dixie D. Ballin bg vocals, Dianna Crawford bg vocals, and myself on vocals and guitar.

2.  Elmo’s Blues......................... this one recorded live at Big Mo Studio in 1992,  Pete Ragusa on drums, Johnny Castle on bass, Dan Hovey on guitar, Mitch Collins on keyboards and myself on vocals and guitar.  This song has been on several albums, but never quite like this before. Thank you Lowell George for the inspiration to keep doing it until you get one that feels right!

3. Boogie Man Gonna Git Ya.... fish heads have been asking for this song for a long time now.  The original track has been out of print for twenty years! This version is from a concert at Lisner Aud in 1977 and includes all the players on track one with Mark Cuff on drums, Lee Robertson added on trombone, and Marion Deegan added on bg vocals........................it’s long, it rocks, and the crowd is going crazy!

4. Twenty Years......................... this is a new song from the 90’s which actually I wrote to do on Hillbilly Funk tour..........I’m doing it here solo acoustic in a little studio out in the countryside of Virginia late at night!

5.  My Father............................... this track is from a solo acoustic performance at 49 West Coffee in Annapolis, Md during the winter of  '98! Thank you Byrd for sharing the stage with me and a special thanks to Rick Creech for the live digital recording.

6.  New Dust Bowl Blues........... this track is also from the show at 49 West Coffee..........I recorded this song on T Lavitz’s solo album several years ago, but have always wanted to do it on an album in a acoustic setting........here it is folks!

7.  Six O’clock News.................. this track is also from the live sessions at Big Mo in 92.......same line up of players as on track two.  Paul Barrere and I wrote this song while walking the streets of South Philly with our old friend Don Clune one night........the song first appeared on the Bluesbusters second album with Paul singing lead.......I had always wanted to do it with a different twist on the groove and so I have...........

8.  To the Left ................................. a wonderfully funky tune that goes back to the Eyewitness Blues days..........I’ve recorded this song several times with different lineups, but this version taken from a funky club gig in Warrenton, Va one night. It is the funky one for sure...........Pete (drum god) Ragusa on drums, Johnny Castle on bass, Dan Hovey on guitar, Mich Collins on keyboards, and myself on guitar and vocals....

9. Sharky......... this song demo has been a fave of mine for a very long time.......a little boy drops his toy shark in the stream and watches it float away......he misses his friend and wants him to come back home and play.............of course this is for Max and Curtis!
